Government pledges 1000 soles for burials and 6000 for reconstruction efforts in favor of quake-affected people

 

Lima. aug. 16 (ANDINA).- Peruvian president Alan García signed a decree on urgent measures in helping quake-affected inhabitants of the cities of Ica, Cañete, Chincha and Pisco. Government will pledge 1000 soles for burials of earthquake victims and 6000 for reconstruction efforts to lighten the effect of city’s devastation after Wednesday 7.9 magnitude earthquake that shook Peru’s coast near the capital.

Pursuant to the Urgency Decree, Peru's National Civil Defense Institute will register earthquake affected people as well as enact necessary provisions to distribute relief items and any humanitarian aid as provided for in said Urgency Decree signed by the President of the Republic exercising the faculties conferred by article 118 of the Political Constitution of Peru.

Accept donations for US $ 500 thousand

By means of a second Urgency Decree, the Executive accepts donations of 200 thousand dollars of the Inter-American Development Bank and other 300 thousand dollars of the Andean Corporation of Promotion, aimed at responding the emergency.

It is established that both amounts, after being incorporated in the Budget of the Ministry of Economy and Finances and once its transfer is authorized in the Public Sector Budget for the Financial Year 2007, they will be addressed to the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) aimed at managing the state of emergency and restoring the earthquake-affected areas.
