Chronology of the most important Peruvian earthquakes

November 2006: Arequipa. A magnitude 5,3 tremor turned 4 houses into rubble, and caused landslides upon Majes road.

October 2006:
Caraveli. M5,5 quake.

October 2005:
Moquegua. 7 quakes struck off cities as Sicuaya, Matalaque, Cuchumbaya and San Cristobal and damaged 35 houses.

September 2005:
Moyobamba. M7 quake killed 5 people in Lamas and affected 70% of the houses.

July 2004:
Lima. 5,4 magnitude quake hit the capital city with no personal or material losses.

August 2003:
Cusco. Two M4,6 tremors left a hundred inhabitants homeless.

May 2003:
Lima. M5,1 tremor.

February 2002:
Arequipa. A M5 tremor shook the town of Huambo, province of Cailloma destroying several precarious houses.

December 2001:
Arequipa. M5,4 tremor killed 2 people and knocked down many houses.

June 2001:
Arequipa. A M6,9 quake struck off the South of Peru killing 69 people and leaving 20 thousand homeless.

April 1999:
Arequipa. M6,1 quake.

November 1996:
Nasca. A M6,4 quake killed 17 people.

April 1993:
Lima. M6,1 quake.

April 1991:
Moyobamba. M6,5 quake.

February 1979:
Arequipa. M6,9 quake.

October 1974:
Lima. M7,5 earthquake.

May 1970:
Huaraz. A powerful earthquake measuring 7,8 magnitude shook the Callejón de Huaylas and killed 70 thousand
people and dissapeared to other 20 thousand. 60 thousand houses collapsed.

June 1968:
Moyobamba, San Martín. M7,0 quake.

October 1966:
Lima. M7,5 earthquake.

September 1963:
Ancash. M7,0 quake.

January 1960:
Arequipa. M7,5 quake.

July 1959:
Arequipa. M7,0 quake.

November 1947:
Satipo, Junín. M7,5 quake

November 1946:
Ancash. M7,2 earthquake

August 1942:
Nazca. M8,4 earthquake
