Pisco, aug. 21 (ANDINA).- Peru's President Alan Garcia launched the "Building Peru" program meant to employ 8,000 people from the earthquake-ravaged areas. He stated that peruvians, as a token of solidarity, keep Pisco in their hearts and all of them want to see Pisco and Ica recover from this tragedy and prosper once again.
This new program will create 8,000 jobs for the next month, in which workers will remove all rubble and debris from the cities of Ica, Pisco and Chincha.
In his speech given at the launch of “Building Peru” program in Pisco, the city worst affected by Wednesday's 7.9-magnitude earthquake, President Garcia stated that thriving spirit will prevail after tragedy, and that peruvians would know how to overcome this catastrophe by demonstrating their will power and tenacity.
The Head of State stressed that from the wreckage of the cathedral, a new faith and new strength would arise, and he paid homage to the quake-affected people who have suffered from this test that God sent us to strengthen our faith and perseverance. He added that Pisco was unique and the foundation for an even greater and more prosperous city was being set.
Peru's President assured citizens that pain and suffering would turn into spiritual strength that would rebuild the city.
"We have all thought about Ica and Chincha, and especially the pain in Pisco, it has helped all Peruvians feel more Peruvian, feel more solidary, feel more like brothers," stated President Garcia.
