President García thanks Chile for earthquake relief efforts in Pisco



 

Pisco, aug. 21 (ANDINA).- Peru’s president Alan García, expressing his gratitude on behalf of the nation, welcomed the  Chilean Government representatives who arrived in Pisco with more humanitarian aid as a M5,1 aftershock was felt.

Health Minister María Soledad Barría and Chilean government spokesman Ricardo Lagos Weber arrived at N° 51 Airbase in the second craft sent by Chile’s Palace of La Moneda (Government House).

Soon after President García received both representatives in the meeting room, a tremor shook the city at 15:37 (20:37 GMT); therefore, the Head of State prefered to held the meeting at the entrance of the building in case of new aftershocks.   

He thanked the Bachelet government by the gesture of solidarity with the peruvian people that has already been expressed via telephone.

President García valued chilean cooperation considering the hardships they are going through since a cold wave is affecting seven regions of the southern nation.  

In turn, Minister Barría said this relief is a sign of solidarity between both neighbor countries and she advanced Chile will assess the possibility to sent a third relief plane. At this time, plane was loaded with twenty tons consisiting of powdered milk, water, milk, blankets, cookies, tents, among other supplies.
