Lima, aug. 28 (ANDINA).- Around 50 Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been involved in providing humanitarian relief to those suffering the ravages of August 15 earthquake in the provinces of Ica, Huancavelica and Lima. Many of these NGOs aim to support the upcoming rehabilitation and reconstruction process.
The Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI) announced it has a registry listing all donations received from NGOs, as well as their pledges to participate in the reconstruction efforts of quake-ravaged cities.
For instance, La Asociación Cristiana Evangélica para el Desarrollo (AECD) (Christian Evangelical Association for Development) plans to rebuild school classrooms in Pisco and establish 710 temporary manufactured homes to shelter disaster victims.
Also, La Asociación Divino Niño Jesús (the Association of Holy Child Jesus) prepares plans for sending additional relief shipments of food and medicines to the affected areas through the Office of the First Lady.
Similarly, in an effort to assist in the area's reconstruction efforts, the Solidarity Association of Emerging Countries (ASPEM) will develop a reconstruction training programme targeting 80 inhabitants of Tambo de Mora district (Chincha province) to help them reconstruct their homes.
Other NGOs that have been working in the earthquake-hit regions are Cooperazione Internazionale that has arranged the delivery of temporary housing in the form of manufactured homes for more earthquake-displaced families; PREDES and DIACONIA that have provided 100 temporary emergency shelters for people living in Grocio Prado, Chincha; Lutheran World Relief that have responded to the emergency by sending water, tents, blankets, food and medicine; Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders that have provided medical assistance and relief goods to the victims of August 15 earthquake; among other national and international NGOs providing relief in the affected area.
